CLAPA, The Cleft Lip and Palate Association has been presented with a cheque for £8,459.10 from SE Controls, following a 12 month long initiative led by employees of the company to raise the funds for the charity.

During 2016, every opportunity was taken by the staff of SE Controls to raise money for CLAPA through a diverse range of activities including a weekly lottery, raffles, Easter Egg decoration and Halloween pumpkin carving competitions together with a special Summer Ball, which alone raised more than £1000.

The fundraising initiatives were co-ordinated by a member of the SE Controls accounting team, Nadine Steele, who worked alongside other company staff to encourage them and to help keep the total growing. The final amount far exceeded the original target estimated and SE Controls then matched this total.

Nadine, whose own daughter is undergoing treatment for the condition, presented the cheque jointly with Group Managing Director of SE Controls, Will Perkins, to CLAPA’s Head of Fundraising, Mike Hey, who explained: “We can’t thank SE Controls and their team enough for their commitment and support in raising such a fabulous final total.”

He added: “A core part of our role is to act as a partnership between parents and health professionals by providing vital non-medical support to families to complement NHS Cleft Teams. Statistically one child in 700 in the UK is born with a cleft lip or palate, which can lead to a lifetime of treatment, operations and psychological challenges. This support will definitely help us to make a difference to the lives of these children and their families.”

The importance of CLAPA’s role was reinforced by Will Perkins, who commented: “As a result of Nadine’s fantastic efforts and the support of everyone in the company, we all now know much more about CLAPA and their work, which provides vital support in communities across the UK. I’m delighted that we have been able to help raise local awareness of CLAPA while contributing to its fundraising target.”
