One Hyde Park
The development is set to be the most iconic piece of architecture to be ever undertaken in London. Designed by Richard Rogers of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Associates, the plan of 80 apartments and three exclusive boutiques in four pavilions, has been designed to form a unity between Knightsbridge and Hyde Park.
Candy and Candy, the development managers, will drive the Hyde Park scheme to ensure smooth running of the entire project until it’s completed. Laing O’Rourke, the world renowned construction company, have provided consultancy on the build.
SE Controls, the countries leading Automatic Window, Smoke and Natural Ventilation Company, have been chosen to provide a fully automated, smoke control system for the prestigious development.
The smoke ventilation strategy has been designed to ensure the common areas are safely ventilated for safe occupant exit in the event of a fire. A flexible and efficient modular OS2 control system has been selected to provide Automatic Opening Ventilation and battery backup, in the event of mains power failure to the electric glass louvers situated in common lobbies. The vents will be triggered via the
dedicated fully addressable fire alarm system, to create smoke evacuation on a floor by floor basis.
Below ground SE Controls provided naturally ventilated smoke shafts from the ground floor to
effectively 3 additional floors below ground. The opening of the shafts will be equipped with actuation to smoke doors to automatically open the doors in the event of a fire. The control system will be designed to provide a standalone system using multi zone control panels to open and close the smoke shaft doors all on a floor by floor basis.
The OS2 control panels are located in an air handling unit; the handling unit has been designed to allow additional space for control panels to be fitted due to lack of space in the common lobby areas. All Lobby areas have glass floors, walls & ceilings thus the location of the controllers became a critical item in designing a specific area to house the controller to ensure full concealment.
The automated ventilation system has additionally being designed to provide a natural ventilation strategy to achieve night cooling in the summer months.
The buildings inventive transparent design, whilst concealing the apartments, will open up the space between Knightsbridge and Hyde Park and provide more light to its gardens. Its red weathered façade will give the impression of the red brick of the surrounding Knightsbridge Architecture. The frontage will conform to the vibrancy and quintessential Englishness of the Knightsbridge style. Where as the rear of the property will provide groves of tall trees and water features that will keep in context with the Hyde Park side. The building retains an aesthetically natural balance with its surroundings.
