Chips
SE Controls have recently completed the installation and commissioning of phase 1 of the Chips building in Manchester. The building has been designed by the flamboyant architect Will Alsop, who wanted to design a building that had humour, attractiveness and did not confirm to the usual 9 storey buildings. The building consisted of three blocks of 3 floors, that overlapped and when designed, the design team commented on the appearance being “chips” stacked on a plate, which has now stuck.
The building will consist of 145, one, two and three bedroom apartments that are earmarked for first time buyers and key worked who can take advantage of the new home buy scheme.
SE Controls was selected by Urban Splash to provide a smoke ventilation solution to remove smoke from common corridors, lobbies and the escape stairs. The smoke ventilation system for phase 1 included, 12x SECO 24 40 actuators that have been implemented onto bottom hung opening out vents within the end of wall corridors and SHEVTEC® roof vents into the escape stairs. The AOV’s are to be operated by OS2 controllers and triggered via smoke detectors on each floor.
