Mechanical Smoke Shaft
As an alternative to natural ventilation provisions, mechanical ventilation may be provided. There are advantages in using mechanical smoke shafts over code compliant natural ventilation shafts, namely: the shaft sizes are generally smaller than an Approved Document B compliant shaft and increased escape travel distances are achieved, reducing the reliance of multiple escape stair cores.
