SE Controls Launch SHEVTEC®, Smoke Ventilation Solutions
03 March 2010
When a fire occurs it takes seconds for smoke to fill an area; it is almost impossible to evacuate to safety through reduced visibility whilst battling with smoke inhalation.
Smoke ventilation allows the creation of a smoke free layer above the floor by removing smoke from the area – actuators open high level fresh air inlet vents allowing cool air into the building which in turn forces out hot air and smoke.
In an unventilated room smoke will rise and gradually spread moving laterally as it reaches the ceiling, it will then be forced back down into the room reducing visibility and escape.
SE Controls has developed SHEVTEC to offer a complete solution which complies with building regulations and fire engineering requirements.
When introduced early on in the design stages, SHEVTEC can help to provide the most cost efficient, practical and compliant design for your plans.
In 2005, 35,300 fires were recorded in the UK in non-domestic buildings. There were 165 fatalities in England and Wales as a result of the toxic effect of carbon monoxide and other gases, fumes and vapours.
The majority of fire related deaths and injuries are caused by smoke inhalation with body burns often post mortem – it is therefore imperative to ensure your premises has a smoke ventilation system in place.
SHEVTEC offers a wide range of leading edge smoke heat exhaust ventilation systems designed and tailored to facilitate the client’s requirements and ventilation strategies to meet the structure of the building.
Depending on the structure of the building envelope adaptive solutions can be provided to meet the design methodology and ventilation strategy. With an extensive product range for any combination of AOV’s, SE Controls provide EN12101-2 certified products to create a comprehensive solution.
