Automatic Opening Smoke Ventilation System for St Lukes Square, London
25 February 2010
The project developed in partnership with Mizen Properties Ltd and Galliard Homes on a design and build contract that will create 162 elegant one and two bedroom apartments and circa 43,000 ft2 of commercial space.
The residential development is generally designed to Approved Document B for core’s B,C & D. However, in core A an extended travel distance of 19m existed at first floor level within the common corridor; therefore it was proposed that the extended distance is justified by supplying a mechanical smoke extraction system.
The proposed mechanical smoke ventilation design was justified and approved via CFD modelling to successfully prove that the SHEVTEC® Powered Smoke Shaft system was able to perform better than a code compliant solution and so SE Controls were happy to recommend the system to the client and Building Control.
