Plymouth University
As part of the £31 million redevelopment project of Plymouth University designed by RWP architects, SE Controls was selected by Cowlin Construction to provide a natural ventilation solution that created a comfortable day time environment for the internal occupants and provided smoke extraction in the event of a fire.
The James Square development is a partnering project between the University of Plymouth and the University Project Partnership due for completion in a three phase development. Phase one of the project is the regeneration of the Mary Newman building, followed by a new residential building and academic facility.
The design emphasis of the development was to create a healthier energy efficient and low emissions building with a dual ventilation strategy to provide smoke extraction in communal areas of the building in the event of a fire. SE Controls supplied and installed 250x TGCO 24 20 electric window actuators, 102 OS2 control panels that integrated with the Building Management System (BMS) to provide day time comfort ventilation and night time cooling of the structure during favourable environmental conditions, with the additional benefit of providing ultra effective smoke extraction.
